A New Teen Trend in Japan-“Eyeball Licking”

I love to keep you informed about teen trends in the United States and around the world because a teen is a teen all over the world and they love their trends. Please have a seat as I tell you about this teen trend in Japan because this one just might make you feel a bit faint. Ready…..Here goes.

Apparently, and yes this is shown on several You Tube videos, lovestruck teens in Japan are expressing their affection and perhaps even their love and lust by engaging in “eyeball-licking.” This is also know technically as “oculolinctus” and more informally as “worming.” Here one teen actually licks the retina of the object of their affection. I kid you not. I cannot tell you what the experience is like but believe me when I get the chance I will ask the teens who are doing this.

Doctors, particularly opthalmologists, are very concerned about this trend because it can lead to health problems such as conjunctivitis usually known as “pinkeye” and apparently has lead to an increased number of cases of conjunctivitis in Japanese teens. Yikes. I thought that “pinkeye” was something that parents needed to keep an eye on (pun intended) in nursery school. Opthalmologists warn that corneal abrasions can result from tongue ridges. Additionally the herpes virus may be passed on. Finally, doctors are concerned about BLINDNESS. Oh dear.

Affection should be expressed in healthy ways, right? It appears that teens all over the world get confused about how to express their feelings. Parents: Please talk to your teens about this trend because I have a feeling that it might be making its way around the world.
